J2 Visa renewal

Hi all,

I am on J2 visa and the visa stamp on my passport expired last June but my husband got his extension and we have the new IAP66. Now I am planning to leave for India for a visit. Is there a way to get the visa renewed here in the US? How long does it typically and where do I get it done? Can I apply for renewal in india? Is it safe to do that since I am working and need to get back.

The only way is to get a new visa stamp from a US consulate in India. If documents are in order, there should be no problem.
