J2 to PERM

True - It is a hassle - but whole getting into residency is a hassle.

Have you considered the scenario if you dont get residency in H1 hospitals - what would you do then?

Thanks to you all for the information. This whole j1 thing is such a hastle

Doesnt getting GC via CP indirectly means you have adjusted your status?

Also would be able to re-enter US after this GC? I mean you did not fulfill the J1 requirements of 3 years job in a rural area ( and in normal non-waiver case you were suppose to go back to your country for 2 years)- would the immigration officers at airport not cause trouble due to this issue?

There is a difference - if you file I-485 you can get EAD and AP while you wait. If you file for CP you cannot. CP is usually being done by people who stay in their home country. However in certain cases CP can be faster than I-485. Also CP is not an adjustment of status. At the end of CP you would have to go to the consulate and do an interview to pick up the GC. Not so with I-485 - you stay in the US and that's it.
