J2 - How to apply for EAD

Hi
I want to apply for EAD for my wife who is here on J2 with me for couple of years. I want to apply now in case she gets into residency post match and it takes time to get EAD. If I apply after(in case) she gets post-match then she will have to wait for EAD to start her residency, which may get delayed.

So how to apply for EAD in NY/NJ area. And if she gets her EAD but does not get residency or does not work - will that be a problem? Is it compulsory to work if you get EAD?

needs EAD to work

forms and instructions are on the USCIS site.

you do not have to work with an EAD, there is no complusion.
 
you could try this

she needs to keep up her skills
she needs to improve and practice her english

i think somewhere it states that the rationale for allowing souse to work is this.
i have no idea how important the reason actually is!

or ask your attorney- safest option :)
