J2/H4 to F1

Hi There,

I am from India and right now living in CA, USA. I came to USA in Feb 2004 on J2 visa. From Nov 2005 I will be on H4 ( As my Husband changed his visa from J1 to H1).I am planning to change my visa status from H4 to F1 in Fall 2006 ( Of Course, after I will get admission in some school).I have few questions regarding the change of status from H4 to F1 and F1 ingeneral. I will appriciate the help .

1) If I am in US , How long the (change of status from H4 to F1) process will take?( After getting I-20 from the school)
2) What are the documents needed for the COS from H4 to F1. ( On my passport the stamp is J2 and I have H4 approval notice and other stuff related to H4 and J2)
3) I was on J2 for 1 and 1/2 years. I am also having employment card( As J2 can work)Valid till Oct 2005 and Social Security Number. But I never worked in USA. After getting F1, Do I need to apply for new SSN or same will do?
4) In school , Can I pay tution as the CA residence?
5) Is there any advantage( like reduction in Fees, preference for admission( Ofcourse after fullfilling admission criteria )and etc..) to apply for the school/university where my husband is working?

Form I-539, read the instructions

Your SSN is yours forever. You can change it under very unique circumstances only (witness protection program).

that depends on the school. Usually, H4 can, and F1 cannot at all.

h4 to f1Please help urgent.

I was on h4 visa and now since I am going to be 21 ,I am applying for f1 visa.I got the I 20 and file I 539 electronically.It has been couple of weeks now and I have not sent any other papers since they said that they would ask for it .i have not recd any request yet and my h4 is ending next week.
Should I send in all the papers to the dept even if they have not asked my for it.
My h4 is expiring next month.Also I lost my old DL and they would not issue me a new one since it was under 1 month to my aging out.
Please help :(
