J2 EAD query

I'd be grateful if someone can throw some light on this J2 EAD related queries

1. I've heard conflicting reports on how long the J2 EAD is valid? One thread says it is valid for a maximum of 4 years( as long as the J-1 is in status) and the other opinion is that it is valid for as long as the J-1?

2. Can the J2 holder change his status( or get a visa stamped from outside of US) to an independent H-1 or an independent J-1 if the primary J-1 holder(subject to 2 yrs home country requirement) continues to stay in J-1 status.

You can change to J-1 by going abroad and getting J-1 visa, but HRR applies to you as well, so you cannot change your status inside the U.S. and you cannot get H1B

my situation is also some wt like urs .may be now u must be knowing in detail abu ead.can u tell me wt is max duration for which one can get ead?
