j1 VISA

This is my situation: I am here in the USA doing a training program in biomedical engineering so I am here with the J1 visa. I have this visa until December 2005 and I have the two years residence requirements. The thing is that I want to study here the next year but the school doesn’t start until the fall 2006 and I want to stay here the 6 months before the school star, working in the laboratory that I am working now. The agency that is sponsor my visa told me that I can’t extend more this visa, so I don’t know what I can do to stay here.

Other little question can I change my visa status from J1 to F1?

Thank for the help!!!!

you can't change your status (HRR prevents you from doing it) but you can leave after J-1 program ends and re-enter on F-1 visa.

As for working for another 6 months, maybe, you could leave the states and then start a new 6 months J-1 program. Of course, that could bring another HRR to add to the first one.

LucyMo Thank you very much for your answer.
I have a question can I apply for J1 waiver?
