J1 Research to clinical, How long it takes at DOS??

Hello,
I am doing research under J1, after finishing the boards and getting all the documentation necessary, ECFMG has filed DOS petition on my behalf for J1 research to clinical converstion. Does any body know how long it takes for the DOS to approve or give an answer???
my current J1 research is about to expire, Should i extend this meanwhile waiting for the response from DOS? or not?
Also should I get some senators help for this. IF anybody knows please help me. I am really in need of help..

it takes several months, about two to four months. when are you planning on starting residency? this year? you should be on time. make sure you don't loose your status however, that can casue trouble. also, have your sevis ID number ready, they will ask for this. they may also require extra documentation, like a letter of intention, where you state your career objectives (why the research you were doing is relevant to your specialty). sometimes they ask you to commit to one specialty and one hospital, and only for the number of years it takes to complete your specialty, without fellowship. anything that deviates from that requires you to re-petition the DOS, so be careful.
 
and I don;t recommend you try to ask for a congressmann's help. it will only delay your process. if you have a good background and publications, you shouldn't have any problems getting this approved.

Thank you so much for your response. Actually I am applying for another clinical fellowship and they want me to start ASAP ( in the same specalty)
I do not know if they will wait for more than two months.
Is there any way to speed up the process???
My petition was filed by ecfmg.
I dont even have the appl rect number .

Unfortunately, there is no way to speed it up. And you are not allowed to contact the DOS re: this matter. It's only through the ECFMG. I would recommend you try to find out who your DOS case manager at ECFMG is, so that you can contact her in order to get updates. That's pretty much all you can do, I hope yours is ready on time.
 
I know the case manager but...

I do know the case manager, and i have emailed asking the updates and also about the application receipt number . but so far no response from her.
I tried to reach her thru phone but ecfmg said that email is the only way to reach her.
I dont know whats going to happen.|
