J 1 Waiver

hi,
iam on a J1( with 2 year rule) doing a research job i want to start a residency in 2003.
1)can i transfer my J1 research to a J1 clinical?
2) is getting a waiver a possibility and how long does it take.?
3) my J1 extension is due in october should i wait for the extension before moving waiver papers?
4) would my waiver application affect my spouses plans to come to the US?

No you cannot transfer from J-1 research to clinical.

It may be better to wait to get your J-1 renewed before filing for waiver (check with a lawyer to be sure).

It is easier to get a waiver for J-1 research. I would advice you to get the waiver then get into a clinical trainig program.
If you have publications, it may be better file for EB-1EA or NIW also.
