J-1 waiver and licensing

I am a 2nd year Internal Medicine resident looking for a J-1 waiver position for 2006.

To get a medical license in some states (NE, CO, NC, WV, TX ...) requires 3 years of GME (graduate medical education). This would be OK by the time I finish my 3 years of residency, but then it would be too late to start the waiver process because I would be out-of-status with the visa.

Is there a way to obtain the license based on the fact that the 3 years of GME would have been completed by the time I would start with the job? Can you share some (positive) experiences?

Thank you.

u should work on the waiver first. dont worry for the license.
I got my license issued by SC effective 1st July 2005 which they issued me in Mid-may 2005. I am finishing my residency on 6/30/05.
On that basis I was issued my h1b visa for 3 yrs.

Make sure u complete FCVS before hand or may be now as it takes good 3-6 months depending on the reply from ur med school.
