J-1 visa waiver (No objection from Brazil)

I am a MD in Brazil and I am coming to the US for a postdoctoral fellowship. As I am going to be a volunteer (not get paid), I am not eligible for a H-1B visa. Therefore, I will receive the J-1 and I am trying to figure out in advance how to get a waiver for continuing in the US and maybe even get another type of visa after my program ends.

It seems that one of the most likely manners to get a waiver is through the NO OBJECTION statement from the home country government. I want to ask, if there is any other brazilian here, what brazilian government agency is responsible for issuing such the NO OBJECTION statement? Anyway, there should not be any objection indeed as my travel will be totally paid with my own personal funds. That is, I am not receiving support from any brazilian or american agency.

contact the Brazilian embassy

i think you must contact the Brazilian embassy or Consulate General in US....
they might be able to give you a step-by-step guide to obtaining your waiver...
Irrespective of the source of your funding...as long as your visa states that you are subject to 212(E)....you have to get the NO OBJECTION certificate...and finally the waiver....

Contact the embassy after your enter US...
