J-1=>illigal=> Derivative Asylum=> ?GC?

My question is:
will I be able to adjust my status from derivative Asylee to GC if I was some period of time illegal (about two years) here in US??
My pattern is J-1 =>travel visa => 2 years illegal => derivative asylum status =>
?Green Card?

If you get asylum you are under special rules. You will get your green card (the worst that can happen is that they will ask you to fill out a special form and ask to be excused for the unauthorized stay)!

So chill and enjoy the freedom afforded you by the asylum grant.

Do not drive yourself crazy over a nonissue.

U shouldn't have any problems with GC approval. However if these jerks from INS give u a hard time, try to get your Green Card through employment or when your wife gets her american passport. In this case they don't have any arguments against u!BTW I also applied for asylum after J-1 visa and stayed in the country without any status for about a month.But my lawer said that it's not a problem at all!

As I read in SOP for asylum

During an interview you have to show that return to you home country is not possible for you. Rrepare you case with good attorney.

Does anybody have a real experience with that?

Here comes a long question. Hope someone can answer it. Was anyone here (or do you know someone) that was without status for more than year after the law changed (in 86 or 87), then granted asylum (with special circunstances), and after that APPLIED AND RECEIVED GC ?

Answer to ur question is YES.

my wife got approved (asylum) staying here illigal and also after the date of one year( i-e u have to file ur asylum after coming here, within one year)
so i guess if ur case is "real" means true and u have all the evidence to prove it, it won't be a big deal .
