Is visa stamp required after GC approval?

Could experts please advise on this subject?

After I-485 approval and receiveing card, is visa stamp in passport a MUST procedure? I have heard different stories and am a little confused.

It is not a visa stamp, and it is entirely optional. In years past, the stamping kickstarted the card ordering process, but USCIS appears to have a new procedure in place.
