Is US Passport required to apply for OID?

We just received US Citizenship and applied for US passport.
Does any body know if you can apply for OID card even though we do not have US passport on hand?

We can show naturalization certificate as proof of nationality. Though OID online form is asking for US pass port number. Not sure if we can skip putting the US passport number

i guess you mean oci instead of oid?

passport is a must you cannot apply oci without passport number you will be get rejected. if you write the naturalization certificate number is totally different.
 
Both Spouses's passports needed.

I got my passport in just 13 days. However, we're still waiting on my wife's U.S. passport. (Its been 17 days so far, for her). We can't apply for the OCI until we BOTH receive our passports, since its a joint application for OCI for the family.

Not sure why the wife's passport should take much longer than mine. We were both naturalized on the same day (March 13, 2008).
