Is Two-way ticket required?

I am planning to bring my parents to US. Do I need to buy two-way tickets?
I want my parents to stay for more than 6 months and since some airlines don't publish discounted fair for more than 6 months, it costs me more to buy 1 year open ticket.
If I opt to buy one way, will there be any problem at POE?

I am sure atleast some of you would have experienced a similar situation and I appreciate any feedback on this.......

With only a one-way ticket, it might be logical for the POE inspector to infer that your parents would not be returning to their home country. I would suggest a two-way ticket that has a low (~$50-$100) fee for changing the return date.
 
My travel agent is telling me that if I book a 4 months open ticket, I would be able to extend it to 6 months with a $100 fee, but not more than 6 months. For now, I will book a 6 months open ticket and deal with it when it comes to renewal.
