Is travelling while H1 transfer safe?

I worked for company A and have a valid H1 visa stamp and I 94. I got laid off from company A, filed H4 application to be in status and now a Company B is going to file my H1 transfer. Company B wont start paying me until they find me a client. Can I go to india and re-enter? Do I need any new visa stamp while re-entering?

Should not travel

while a change of status is pending. Either come back and file for change of status or cancel travel plans or wait outside US for h1 approval and after getting a new stamp enter US.

Why not just file for a new H-1 and leave the US and wait oversea until the company is ready to pay you. Once you get your H-1 from the new employer, the company will need to have you on the payroll or terminate your visa within 6o days of approval (assuming that you are in the US, available for work, and that the H-1 was filed as a COS and INS issued new I-94s indicating H-1 status.)
