I have a question for experts. I got I-485 approved on 21st January'2004 and I-551 stamping done on 6th January' 2004 for myself, wife and 2 years old daughter. I am planning to visit outside United States for a month or so. Do I need to wait for plastic card? or I-551 stamp is sufficient to reenter U.S?

Please post your reply ASAP.

Thanks lot for your help.

you are all set

As per general knowledge, and what the USCIS officer told me - this is your green card, only difference is validity is only for 1 year. All rights/privileges same as plastic card. So you're all set - enjoy your vacation.

Do not travel thru UK even with passport stamped with I-551

M y family had bad exp on return from India so DO not travel thru UK unless u have transit VISA though you have your PP stamped with I-551.

They are asking for physical "Green cards" for all GC approved after April 1998 .

I got a e-mail confirming this from UK Visa office in Newyork.

my 2 cents
