Is this wait really worth

This might be slightly off topic but definitely a valid question. With India booming does it even make sense to suffer so much this piece of plastic.

IIM Grads make 25 lacs p.a., which is equivalent to 60K here.

Look at some pictures about how the construction boom is shaping up...

It seems like a waste of time sticking here for the GC. What do you say?

been thinking the same thing

I have been thinking the same thing. Might even change my id here (gc_chahiye == "need gc" in Hindi); dont know if I really need GC now. A couple of years on extended H1 might be enough (to get enough experience, save enough dough and return)

Anyhow it really depends on your long term goals, and whether you want the option to easily return to the US at some point (get citizenship). For now the economies of both countries are doing ok and there are plenty of opportunities on both sides. No real need to hurry back. You can also live in the US and invest in india if you want to make money off this growth.

India's growth prospects are good, but its still early days, most of the big gains are not going to happen immediately:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Economy_of_India#Future_predictions
India's GDP in current prices will overtake France and Italy by 2020, Germany, UK and Russia by 2025 and Japan by 2035. By 2035 it is expected to reach as 3rd largest economy of the world behind US and China. By 2025 the Indian economy is projected to be about 60 per cent the size of the US economy.

so sitting here for another 2-5 years waiting for priority dates to become current, and keeping an idea on whats going on India may not be a bad idea. :) You are still making more money than what you can make in India and the standard of living is arguably better (again both of these are based on personal needs/requirements. Your idea of standard of living may not be the same as the next persons)

Show GUts

Dont start stupid threads. If you want ot move back, show guts and move back to desh. Otherwise get screwd like all of us here on this board and dont discuss useless topics.

Well, the point is that you really can't go back even after getting the GC. You have to wait for citizenship (another 5 years) in order to play totally safe. Like you said it's difficult to quantify standard of living because everyone has their own criteria. To me quality of life also includes being closer to family and friends. Over here it's a never ending struggle for getting accepted by someone who doesn't think of you as their own kind. It's a tough situation to be in.

Getting GC ... and going back to your home country are two different issues.

One of my friend went back .. after he got US citizenship.. He has set up a business which demand frequent international travel.. With US Citizenship its so easy... He is very happy there and his family is very happy too as they have now many many servants to take care of household chores. No more bathroom cleaning for them :)

My argument for guys who have filed I-485 and have got EAD .. how much difference it makes .... The only thing is you need to renew the EAD every year and GC you need to renew every 10 years.
But I heard that they are trying to do 3 years EAD or something.

Well some would argue -- the uncertainty of getting GC after a wait. Now rejection at 485 level is very low .. and now they are doing preAdjucation... so to some extent you are sure to get an card.

Can you tell me what makes the wait so bad for you?

I plan to go back in a couple of years. The sooner I get my GC, sooner I can apply for citizenship. For me citizenship is the key, after that hopefully I'd be done with this immigration business :)

I have my own reasons of being frustrated. I guess everyone has their own story, here's mine.

- Company A: Applied for GC in Dec 2001, Filed Labor
- Company filed Chapter 11, later folded.
- Company B: Applied for GC in Nov 2002, Filed Labor
- Company relocated to another state while labor in progress
- Quit the company and joined Company C (consulting firm) that filed for I-140 and 485 using Sub-Labor
- Changed jobs using AC21 but still on H1 (8th year)

As you can see no major roadblocks but process doesn't seem to get over. However, I've spent a whole lot on attorney fees.

simple you are dependent on a single employer for more than 4-5 years........atleast 30% probability that things will get sour and you will lose this GC process...

since you are dependent.....you have to become sucker after a while (playing it ultra safe) because you cannot risk losing the process....

Is TSC is doing preAdjucation???

Even if you have an EAD, you are still constrained because there are so many things you can't do without taking a big risk ... can't get promoted or change jobs any way you want due to the "same or similar" requirement, can't quit your job to start a company, etc. You can't even safely take a long vacation because the USCIS might send an RFE or fingerprint notice or interview appointment while you're away.

Since this thread had come up I wanted to share that I have moved back to India a few months back. The retrogression obviously had a part to play along with other personal considerations.

I am happy to mention that I have a good job back home now and feel at peace in presence of my family and friends.

I have been getting several emails and calls from recruiters even after I started working, however,I am content at this time and for me to make a move would have to be matched with an equally serious offer.

I did make a decision to move back to our "desh" and initially it indeed seemed like one of my biggest decisions yet.

Take care all.

Well said. Get going babuji! Discussing online won't achieve much.

WTF??????

what a loser

WTF??????

Here’s another one. I wonder what he’ll do next to seek attention. I don’t understand what motivates such people …. they just have to butt in every time. It’s like a thirteen year old, who’ll do anything to get attention… even though it’s negative attention.

In a similar case, couple of these neurotic idiots drove UN away.

Hey, since you have my attention now, why don’t you get the F out of here.
