Hey guys,

Kudos to all ya'll who have been successfully processed in the 2008 DV lottery and are now living their American dream , some of us like me ...we are still in doubt if this system really works , see I have not yet got my second letter (DV 2008) when i received my first on 24th May 2008 - CN 2008AF00067XXX ..sent forms back and confirmed KCC had received....

I am seriously doubting the success of this system and how they prioritize their admissions , this is harder than anything i have ever done in my whole life.... i am past worrying ..past wishing ...now am just hopeless and completely lost faith in DV lottery...worst thing is that I will never get to know if I have not been accepted until I have wasted alot of time and energy thinking about whether am in o not, maybe wait until December 2009 when all my friends who won with me are gone ,celebrating Christmas with snow for the first time ...and am left behind. :(

I applied for 2009 and not yet got any letters though I heard they are already sending , cause a buddy of mine got 2009 DV too.

I suppose am not lucky enough , just semi-lucky to get the first letter :-( ...

If anyone can help me or if there is anything am missing that can help me out , maybe a way to speed up the process or get more information on how to cope with my current dilemma...please reply.

I also would like to know ..like if they set the bulletin to "CURRENT" , does that imply that I am going to be selected too without the second letter or I need to have second letter and be "CURRENT" ?

Does the second letter really matter when the bulletin says "CURRENT"... that is my primary concern if anyone can help me out please ...be much appreciated..

Bye n be lucky ;)

Why are you being hard on yourself? Remember that you were told that selection does not guarantee that you will receive a visa becos the number of applicants selected is greater than the number of visas available. Above all, the fiscal year has not ended yet Since you are from Nairobi, there is a chance that you number will be current before it ends, that is if we are going by the way it was done last year. Stay strong and be hopeful!!!

YOU HAVE A PRETTY GOOD CHANCE IF YOU ARE NOT FROM NIGERIA.

hi

Hi

I undrestand how you feel, i also received my first letter in May 2007.I also don't know if my no is going to be current before sep 2008. The other way we can look at this situation is that we were lucky enough to be one of the winners. I think we should have hope and be optimistic, at the end of this difficult journey we might get something good in return.

God is great
don't lose your hope.

if visa bulletin says "current" that means that everybody gets a chance of an interview. However, it needs to be scheduled for you, and if the consulate has no time to schedule interviews for the rest of the applicants, you may not get one (and will not get a visa).

hi

I disagree with you, once the visa bulletin shows current the rest of the nos get their interview, once it shows current just call KCC and ask them about your interview date.

I think what Lucy is saying is correct, as if the number becomes current in September then there is a possibility the interview may not be scheduled as it can take a few weeks before there is an interview slot available. Or, you may get an interview before the end of September but if you are unfortunate there may be a problem preventing the visa being issued that day, then not enough time after that to sort out the problem before the end of September deadline.

I disagree with you, once the visa bulletin shows current the rest of the nos get their interview, once it shows current just call KCC and ask them about your interview date.

KCC doesn't schedule your appointments. The consulates do.

Take my parents as an example. Their case number became current in March. THey didn't get their interview until mid-April. Now, if your number becomes current in September, and the consulate doesn't have time to interview 300 people that month, do you think all of these 300 people will still get a visa?

Thanks guys for your enlightening help on the subject at least now I have some straws to clutch on , I'll keep my fingers crossed and hope that the numbers become current this year, and make sure that I contact the consulate here about my interview .

I may even start booking (General) interviews online now on the consulate website just in case so that I secure an interview slot ,after all from what you have said is that if numbers are set to current they just prioritize and having an advantage (interview arranged for myself) seems like a clever thing to do now...lol

ps,

I had not even done what they asked for in the first letter cause of losing hope , I think I will start now getting the vaccines and stuff ...affidavit of support etc..organizing my get out of 3rd world free-card.

On another note ,I have been monitoring the economic situation in the states and it's really slumped the past few months , price of gas to go up to an estimated $4 a gallon , during summer  , I hope I wont get there and get an American 1929 situation , after all it's what I am trying to get out of...
One thing for sure is that I wont own a car for a few months , due to above case..lol

Thanks again all for your insight on the matter!!

I think someone experienced as you lot should write a manual or guide detailing all these things you know about the programme and maybe that will be more helpful to others who need your help but cant come online all the time after all internet is sorta rare in Africa and 3rd world nations where most of the people who get DV visas come from.

bye.
