Is there an Official Government Telephone Number for Advice on J and H visas?

Does anyone know if there is an official telephone number to call for advise with visa applications, I particularly need to know if apply for a H1 visa whilst on a J1 visa invalidates the remainder of the J1? My J1 expires in Feb 07 and my employer would like to apply for H1B for me know but not if it invalidates the remainder of the time I have on my J1 - is there a telephone support lines for work visas??
 
If J1 is valid and you are meeting all the J1 requirement, your J1 won't get void UNTIL your H1 start date on approved petition comes.

Thank you for the information - I had been confused as I had read a previous post on the forum that mentioned that an attorney had said you would get deported if you applied for an H1 while on a J1! Thanks
