Is Name check a separate process when FBI does biometric criminal check for N 400 applicants? During my I 485 days I remember the name check took some long time to clear.

Yes. FBI does the 2 process separately. The biometric is really fast. you can call FBI to check this one.
The name check can take more time. I got this from a post:
It all depends on your name. If you have an arabic sounding name or a variation of your name sounds Arabic, the data base has names for sure which are similar. For example if there is Mohammad or waled in your name, you may be a "hit". Hits have to be resolved. It takes at leat 4 months, plus a month or two for communication. So many people with Mulim names will have to wait a minimum of 6 months. Of course women are hardly in the data base hence, they clear fast.

I heard that current CIS policy is to wait until the background checks are complete before scheduling an interview.

Thanks; I called FBI and they said that the biometric test are completed and will the results soon to USCIS today. I guess they send the name check results separately?
