Is the Premium really worth it?

Hi,
I am currently on academic H-1B. My next employer has filed for my H-1B under Advanced Degree Cap with a receipt date of June 9 under regular processing. Even when it is appoved I will be be able to join the company only in October. However, waiting for a decision till september (approx. decision date based on the current trend) is really painfull. So, I am wondering whether it is a good idea to upgrade it to Premium, or is it really worth $ 1000. Please pour in your thoughts regarding the 'plus' and 'minus' of both the cases.

Thanks in advance
Arun

Plus: You get the results faster.
Minus: You blow away $1000.

If you are not sure if you will be approved, then it is better to go premium 'coz you can think of alternatives -- The AD H1 cap also seems to be reaching pretty soon. So going premium may get you some time to apply again.

Any chance of not getting a reply within 15 days with PP? Would your money back? Has anyone encountered this problem before?

Its worth every penny, definitely for initial applications. For a h1b change it might be less important.

Not only do you get your decision faster, if they need anything additional they just call your attorney and sort out things over the phone or via fax. Also, the processing centers have the nasty tendency to send cap-exempt H1bs back with a 'cap has been reached' letter. In the PP facility, the mailroom seems to know that there are cap-exempt h1bs.

What if you don't hear anything at the end of 15 days, using PP? Are you eligible for a refund?

Your attorney will have a phone number and email for the premium processing facility where an actual human being will pick up the phone and call him back with the reasons why there is a delay.

It is a whole different ballgame. The premium processing facility will actually respond to inquiries, not the usual 'wait 30 days, don't call again bull' from the regular guys.
