Is the employment letter a must ?
Hi, guys,

I am wandering if the employment letter is the must to enter USA other than AP ?

I came back to USA via Newark on 20, september with AP and employment letter, the officier did not look at the letter at all. And now I just quit my US job and will go back to my homecountry again soon. I think I still have a chance to visit US again in next six months( my AP is still valid) ? In this case, the only difference is I dont have the job any more, Am I taking the risk ?

By the way, does anybody tell me how I can know my H1b status is revoked after quitting my job ?

I came back recently and i wasnt asked about it.

Technically, u dont need it as AP is for multiple entry. But you will never know whom u will jump into.

Why dont u stay back and find a job here. u r legal to stay as an adjustment candidate.

The reason I am asking is I have a good offer in my homecountry which means I have to quit the job in US. And my I485 is pending since August,2002. I am afraid I have to have a empolyment letter / job when I was asked for 1485 interview some time next year, then I have to come back to US again ?

I am sorry i cant help u there but i can give my experience in Detroit.
I showed my passport and a photocopy of my AP [ my lawyer asked me to give a photocopy ]
He asked the original. I showed it to me. He said u shouldnt take photocopies or gov docs and he tore it up. I said my lawyer said i should show the original but provide u with a photocopy so i have it for multiple entries.
He asked me your lawyer works for immigration. I said i dont know. He said your lawyer doesnt work for immigration and u dont provide photocopies. OK?
i said Ok.
He took all the AP Originals and passport and asked me to go to a special line where i had to give my I-94 and fill up the blanks on a stamp.
so, thats it.
But i am telling u dont live in fear. Just hit the road.

I have a question regarding AP. I too will be flying via detroit, how much time immigration people take for AP people? do they ask any questions?

Basic questions

They just ask some basic questions like which company you work with and how long have you been outside the country. He searched for the stamp in the passport of when i left the country. [immigration stamp in India ]
It took me about 5min with each of the representatives if you take off the long wait in the line.
