Don't worry too much and don't be nervous. You will be fine.

There was a recent posting, can't find it now, which said there was a memorandum to this effect. However, the details were not clear cut - they said they will handle 98% of the cases within reasonable times, and 2% of the cases will be outliers. Since you and I can not control who falls in the 98% vs 2%, things could be as bad for a person nowadays as they used to be for others ... it depends on your luck to some extent ... does your name match or sound similar to someone on the watch list?

Anyway, despite this, things are way better for most of the people. The end to end process in some DOs is taking less than 90 days, and FBI check is only one part of it. Don't worry too much about it.

Two years ago, more than half of the postings in this forum were because
of name check delays. Now, there are only few posting related to the name
check. Thus, seems this procedure became much faster/better these days.

Thank you so much guys and Yes i found this ..

USCIS Meets Another Milestone in Eliminating FBI Name Check Backlogs
Name Checks Pending More Than Six Months Now Completed

WASHINGTON—U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) announced today that, working in close partnership with the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), the backlog for FBI name checks pending more than six months has been eliminated. This is the fourth milestone met by the agency as part of its joint plan with the FBI to completely eliminate the backlog of pending name checks.

Just 16 months ago, more than 349,000 name checks were pending; of that, nearly 150,000 had been pending for more than six months. All USCIS requests pending for six months or more as of February 28, 2009, have now been responded to by the FBI’s National Name Check Program (NNCP).

In April 2008, USCIS and the FBI established milestones prioritizing work based on the age of the pending name check. Priorities included processing all name checks pending more than three years by May 2008 (the FBI had already eliminated all cases pending more than four years); those pending more than two years by July 2008; and those pending more than one year by November 2008.

USCIS and FBI are on schedule to meet the next two goals: all name checks requests pending longer than 90 days to be completed by May 30, 2009 and, by the end of June 2009, the FBI will complete 98 percent of USCIS name check requests within 30 days and process the remaining two percent within three months. USCIS and the FBI will continue to focus on sustaining a rigorous and efficient screening of each name check request.

Elimination of the name check backlog is an example of USCIS’ commitment to making timely decisions about immigration applications and petitions, while maintaining the security and integrity of America’s immigration system.

where can i find the FBI name check list ???

If this is true, then they're not doing their job properly. I've been waiting for over a year for my name check and it still hasn't been done. I applied on October 2008 and my name check started in Nov 2008.

I've been told on two occasions by the USCIS that it's because of the name check.

Is there any other way of finding out?

I agree with the others that it could be the other reasons for the delay. Examples: issues with N-400 application, residency rules, inconsistency with the application data in the one in USCIS files, and as an exception, USCIS may revisit and investigate GC granting process (it is rare, but it could happen).

If your GC case was straight forward and you maintained the PR status (residency issues, paying taxes, good moral character), then nothing to worry.

You talking about N-400 or I-485 ??

This summer the FBI announced that they reached their goal to process *all* name check within three months. I saw the official press release somewhere. Also, if you google "name check" you should find it as well.
