Is stamping required to get green card?

Yes, in fact it is the final processing of the approval. The stamp on the passport is really for your convenience. I guess they won't stamp it if you don't need it but to get the card the paperwork needs to be filled out by the USCIS officer and you need to sign and fingerprint it.

I don't know what in the world could be your issue with one of the very final USCIS process for you GC.

Nevertheless, it necessary for you go for stamping and fillout the necessary paper work and give them the fotos to initiate the GC manufacturing proces for you.

Also, this topic has been dealt with in detail several times recently, Trying searching for that on the forum and you might find more information if you want.
