Is SSN card actually asked during Interview

Do folks have any experience with the IO actually asking to see the original SSN card or photocopy during the interview??? What are the chances IO will ask for it and what happens if applicant cannot produce it [I assume he may delay the application and re-schedule the interview or ask to mail the card]

I searched my whole house and for what it is worth I just can't seem to find the tiny square sized creature... I used to have a few photocopies, but looks like even those have disappeared like the bailout billions...Just want to know if I really need to walk to the SSN office and apply for a replacement card.

Thanks.

It is rarely asked for, and if it is asked and you don't have it with you it is unlikely that it will lead to you not being approved for citizenship. I wouldn't sweat it. I think they ask it more of dependent green card individuals. For example, you got your GC through employment, they assume you have a social security card, but perhaps your spouse gets asked to show the social security card.

Go to a SSN office to apply for new card with the same number.
You should get a SSN card even without immigration as a factor
anyway.

I was asked for the SS card during my interview. It is not a big hassle to replace it if you lost and it is free. Since you still have more time for the interview, applying for a replacement wouldn't hurt. But just make sure that you really lost it at home..not outside..and so you don't fall for Identify theft

I had my interview at Sacramento DO. I was NOT asked for SSN card.

Hope this helps

I was not asked for SS card. My wife, in a separate interview, was asked for her SS card/#. When she started to search through her purse for more than 10-20 seconds for the card, the IO said not to worry about it and moved on.

BTW, if you can't find you SS card and are in a pinch, check with your workplace. They typically make a photocopy for the I-9 (or whatever the IRS form is called).

Like other documents at interview, SSN card may be requested but not required. Every IO has right to request whatever documents in order to adjudicate your case. Some documents are more important that others, for example past tax receipts to prove US residency ties, whereas others merely serve as cursory checks in the process.
