Is passport stamping compulsory?

Friends,

I expect our approval in/after Dec 2002 (our RD is mid-Feb 2002). We have long and confirmed travel plans during this period. We intend to use our advance paroles while re-entering the US.

If I-485 approvals come while we are out of the US, will it pose any problem? Is it possible to receive physical greencards without stamping the passports? OR is there any validity date printed over the approval letter?

Thank you.

Best wishes,

Jigesh

stamping passport is compulsory , after that only they will order for Physical Cards

if your GC approved while you are in india , then you may have to reenter USA with parole and after done stamping , update the information at the Port of entry . For me i got my approval on 21st my wife is still in India , i talked to my lawer he said the same .

yes

as of i know you have to stamp your passport to get your plastic card. at the time of stamping you have to fill in a form - which is sent service center .
I am not an expert but I know for sure that if you are outside USa and you get approval you can come back on AP and get your passport stamped. There is no problem with it. I personal ly know people who have done that.
However if your GC is approved before leaving you have to get your passport stamped and then leave.Because once you get approval your EAD/Ap becomes invalid.
You may check previous Sheela Murthy chat at www.murthy.com/chattarn.html , read transcripts and they contain answers to majority of your questions.

yeah, that\'s true,

I went to NYC on May 17th, turned in all the paper work, but no stamping. the Vermont center automatic message updated to "... we ordered you a new card on June 17th..." and I received the card today.
good luck, everyone.
