Hello Everybody,
I am Aug 2001 PD Sufferer... My interview finally happened in arlington in Nov 2003. everything was done but the approval was held up due to Security Check..

I have an valid AP.

I have to go to India for 2-3 months to take care of my parents..

If the approval comes in my absense, do I need to get the passport stamped when I come back, or does the Card comes automatically..

The reason I am asking this is because of pressing needs, I may have to prolong the stay in India.....

thanks

When you go for passport stamping, they also take your index fingerprint and other information required to order a card. Although this too does NOT guarantee your card will be sent to you without further hassles, I believe it is a required step.

When you say "everything was done", did that include signing the white card and putting your index fingerprint on it? Because that, I believe, is what they need for issuing the GC.

During my Baltimore interview on 9/10/03, I already did the signing and fingerprinting of the white card. However, the IIO did not stamp my PP because I needed to get a police clearance (there were problems with my FP, despite 3 FPs all within one year, both electronic and manual). He told me that I was essentially done, they just needed the clearance.

Eventually, I got the clearance and submitted it. A couple of months later, I received a letter from the Baltimore office telling me I was approved and that I would be issued my GC from the Vermont office. It also added that "if" I needed proof of my residency, I could go for PP stamping but essentially they have already passed the info back to Vermont.

I eventually did get a PP stamp (12/31/03) but it was not really necessary in my case. In fact, when I showed the letter, the IIO just stamped my PP and didn't enter anything into a computer (didn't even check anything), didn't note that I had gone in. It felt like this was just a formality for my benefit.

I compared my timeline with that of a co-worker who had been interviewed, stamped and signed the white card in Baltimore on 12/09/03. My approval letter was dated 12/18. She received her card 1/20/04. I received mine 1/26/04. So it looks like the date of my approval was really when they sent out the stuff to Vermont, regardless of my PP stamping.
