Is Original I-797 required for H-4 stamping at Chennai consulate ?

No ...

They just require copies of most of the documents for an H4 stamping, including the I-797 form.

I heard something else

I heard Chennai consulate is specifically asking for original I-797
( not Delhi or other places ). So I am trying to find from
somebody who recently got their H4 from chennai.

I already have 1-94 which is valid till 2003,but dont\' stamped it in my passport. This month I am going to India, I want to know What papers I will be needing and can I use drop box methord for visa stamping. I am in US for around three years.

In that case, your best option will be to call up the TT Services in Chennai and they should be able to guide you in the right direction.

I\'m not sure if you\'ll need any specific documents in your case, but my Wife just got her H4 Visa stamp, and here is the list of documents that she was required to submit:
