Is old passport required?

I am preparing all the documents and I can't seem to find my old passport. The only thing I had on the old passport was my original visa and entry stamp, as well as the I-551 stamp you get after your GC approval. The passport expired about 8 months later and I can't seem to find it. All my travels since then have been on my new passport. Any thoughts?

assuming you not applying under 3-year rule, what this means is that you have new passport and travel stamps for the past 4 years, and only the year 5 years back does not have supporting passport. i do not think it is a big deal. if they do want to see your passport ... mostly because you spent too much time out of us, they will give you time to submit a police report of loss.

be prepared to handle any surprises, but hopefully there will not be any.

Thanks for your input guys. No, I did get my old passport back and and I remember storing it in a safe place for future reference. I guess the "safe place" is so safe, even I can't remember.

I don't think you'll need the passport, like sanjo said be prepared for anything though. You never know what sort of obscure rule or regulation the USCIS might have up its sleeve.

I took both my current and old passport with me to my interview. The IO flipped through my current one to check the travel dates, didn't bother to check the old one. Don't think you would have any problems since it looks like all your international travel since you became a perm res has been with your current passport. Keep looking for that "safe place" though, you never know what kind of IO you run into at the USCIS.

thanks Mickey, Stanley. Yes, all travel since GC (for the last 8.5 years) has been on the new passport. I'll keep looking but will also file a police report for the lost passport, just in case. Appreciate the feedback.

My wife tells me the same thing. Whenever I can't find something, she says you must have kept it in one of your safe place that you can never find :)

I had my interview not too long ago, which I passed, and the officer asked me if I had my old passport. All I had was a new passport. I don't think he really cared, it was just a general question, I guess.
