In light of recent event, do you think we can expect our 10,000 green cards on October 1?

Annv,

We will just have to wait and see if the asylee adjustment cut-off-date for the next fiscal year is going to be announced on October 1 2001.

I have given up all hopes on the chances of asylee adjustment quota getting increased though. Congress will adjourn on October 5th and the 108th session wont begin until January 1 2002.

Hi Jack:
Do you have any new info on cut-off date? I applied for adjustment in Nov. 1998 as asylee and still waiting. Can you please make a guess where would it be possible... Rosee

I applied mine in September 1997 and still wating. I did go for the finger print and interview in April 2001 though. They told me to continue waiting to be called for I-94/Passport stamping.

The President has still not formally allocated the 10,000 green cards for the new FY yet. So as of right now the INS cannot give final approval to any asylum-based I-485. But it appears that it is doing the paperwork. leading to approval on cases that would be in line for a quota as soon as the President acts. Let us hope that the 10,000 quotas will still be authorized this year and that recent events merely delay the machinery of government.

Hi Gilbert,

It seems that all the politicians, including the President, are hesitant to introduce/issue/pass any immigration law that will allow a mass number of asylees to become LPRs. But the asylee adjustment cut-off-date is announced in October of every year and I am just as surprised as anybody why it has not been announced yet.

One thing I am worried is that the INS can bring back the CIA background check thing. That will make asylee adjustment processing time even longer.
