Hi,

Here is my situation. I landed in Canada on Dec 25, 2001. Got PR card with the experition date May 2008. I didn't apply for medicare and didn't open any bank account in Canada. I have been working in US with H1B for all these years. Now I might get a job offer in Canada. My questions are:

1. Will I have any trouble applying for medicare?
2. When my PR card expire in May 2008, will there be any trouble renewal?

Thank you for your help....

Hi OohStill,

How many days have you lived in Canada since landing? As a PR of Canada it is your responsibility to maintain your status. To retain your PR you have to stay in Canada for a period of 2 years out of a total of 5 starting from the day you land in Canada.

Therefore you MUST live in Canada for 2 years between Dec 25, 2001 and Dec 24, 2006.

OohStill,
Something does not add up. PR card is usually given for 5 years. If you have a valid card try and make a trip. If entering from USA you should have no problem. Live there for 2 years and apply for PR card renewal.
You are taking a chance, but may work.

Thank you Kenny04 and Metaman for your reply. At that time when I landed, Canada didn't have PR card yet. So they sent me a letter telling me to go to Canada to get PR card. I went there in May 2003. That's why my PR card valid until May 2008. I think I'm going to take a chance to go live there for 2 years.

Thank you again.
