I filed I-485 for my parents. I am thinking of applying for medi-cal for my father. According to the case worker, he has a good chance of getting it. However, will it jeopardize his green card application? Is medi-cal considered to be publich charge described on the affidavit of support?
Is medi-cal ran by state not ferderal?

Medi-cal is state assistance, not federal, and green card holders are eligible for it. Even some illegals are eligible. I don't think it's public charge, but mind you, I'm not a public charge expert :)

to be devil's advocate. so you say can support your parents with the sponsorship form. and now you are putting in for medi-cal? i say hold on the medi-cal until approval and ask immigration.

It's a very good advice.

Talked to attorney

He said it is ok. Medi-caid is not considered public charge. I said I could support my parents all right, but to be realistic, how can I possbibly afford the ridiculous medical expense.

Keep in mind that the affadavit of support for your parents allows medical to come after you to reimburse them; that's what it's there for. Wether they choose to do so is another question, but you never know.

there are some situations where medi-cal is not considered a public charge. my question is how are they qualifying for medi-cal and under what program is it?
