Hello All,

Maybe you can help me. I know about H1 visa who makes it possible for you to come to the states. However I might not be informed correctly. As far as i know you need an invetation from a company that says they want you to work with them and then they need to pay a certain amount of money. But the government gives only H1 visas to people with special education is this right? Or is it eongouh if a company invites you to work with them lets say as an office manager?

Secon chance to get a green cared or live in the US is to have a family member there right?

and 3rd is the lottery.

Or am I worng? Are there other simple possiblities I dont know of?

Thanks a lot for helping out.

If you get an engineer degrees then you WILL get a work permit who may lead to the green card after severals years... engineers are in high demand in usa

Yes, with a engineer degrees (better with master's) you can get a H1B visa sponsored by a company.
But you have to be superior that local engineers, and with decent communication skills.

The position should require at least bachelor's degree and your prospective employer should be willing to pay you prevailing wage.

I'm not sure what "office manager" is, but I think it does not qualify.

why do you think i choosed to take engineer courses in Canada my friend lol, since i'm french national, i only pay about 1200$ per semester & canadian degrees are reconized in USA unlike many foreigh degrees... & also I can not put all my hopes in a lottery...

That's pretty economical and feasible.
However, what kind of engineering is also important. Choose wisely.

To get an h class visa the employer has to show that they can not find any person that exists in the US to do the work. In general the entire quota for these visas are used up on the day the class opens. Also with the current economy even engineers are being layed off in mass. Many of the open jobs require that you have US citizenship.

Yeah, I saw some job requirement in San Diego in which the american citizenship was a requirement

Check for job listings in the field. Many engineering positions in the US you will see the note "must provide proof of US citizenship" engineering companies that have jobs that don't require that send a lot of the work to Asia where the engineer only gets paid half the money. Make sure the college is accedited or you will have a piece of paper that you can use in the toilet.

my husband is a geneticist / cell biologist with masters in food science and has an MBA
I will see if we can look for a company who would be interested in giving him this opportunity in the US if we do not get selected in the Green Card Lottery.

University Of Quebec in Montreal (UQAM), it is reconize in the whole north america, I had the opportunity to do that in France but I prefere having a degree that would allow me to work in USA or Canada since I do not see myself living in europe

This is NOT true. You only need to file LCA with DOL. If you're lucky it will be approved electronically within the same day.

This is NOT true. In FY 2010 the quota was over on December 21st and FY 2011 it's January 26th (since April, 1st).

Those who are truly bright are always in high demand. Those who need a script to work are being laid off, true.

Ok, this part is true. :)
