Is it worth filing from Atlanta DO?

I am new to this forum. I will be eligible for submitting N-400 in about 2 weeks. But looking at all the postings from other applicants from Atlanta DO, I am debating whether to relocate to places like Texas or Kansas where I see the whole process takes only about 4-6 months. Even if I add 90 days waiting period it may still be worth it as otherwise it may take over 18 months if I apply now in Atlanta.

Basically I want gurus in this forum to suggest whether it is worth it to go through relocation hassles (I can work from anywhere) and apply or bite the bullet and apply in Atlanta and take a chance. I would like to get my citizenship before the end of this year.

Any Suggestions? Will Atlanta processing times improve in future. I find that Atlanta is way back in processing N-400 applications in comparison with most DOs.

I ain't no guru - but I will try to help you out.

If you MUST have your citizenship by the end of the year you better relocate. Texas, Kansas, Colorado are quite fast. In any event you better hurry with your relocation.

If not, take into account Atlanta time from beginning to end is appox 14-15 months. (Not as bad as 18 months). And it is reasonable to assume, (unless, god forbid, there is another Sept 11), that this time will go down rather than up.

I am from Atlanta, my timeline:

PF End of August 2004
FP Mid November 2004
and waiting...

JohnnyCash,

You are free to pick any state, move there , wait 3 months and apply for Natz. No govt regulations prevent this!

If hillary clinton could move to NY State, be a resident for 1 year and get elected Senator why cant you get a citizenship by moving from out of state?

Rahul,

I think that JohnnyCash was only trying to assert, in his elaborate and lengthy style, that one must not attempt to circumvent the three months residency in hopes of expediting his naturalization process.

I am sure you agree with that.

JohnnyCash, correct me if I understood you wrong (but make it short... )

johnny, How is your case going on?? Is it over or still pending with court?? I don't see those threads where you detailed out your court battle!!!!!

S/he can file for naturalization from his/her place and after filing-s/he should move wherever s/he wants to have naturalization interview for the sake of expedite processing. It won't interfere the processing and will take almost the same time based upon where naturalization interview will be conducted.

There you go again... :D
We have to read so much 'till we find a nugget. :)

Are you sure about the quoted above?
I thought that moving while in process does slow your processing time. People reported many delays when they moved from one DO to the other.
There was a thread discussing this issue but I don;t remember there was any clear conclusion one way or the other.
Either way, if they move now to San Antonio, TX or Whichita, KA, wait three months and file it is more likelythey will be taking the oath earlier than if they file immediately here in Atlanta.

JohnnyCash,

Nobody is trying to circumvent the law here. It is perfectle legal to move to any place wait for 90 days and apply from there. Even if this is done to explicitely to expedite N-400 application. You see I mentioned 'relocate' not 'take an address'. The main point of the posting seems to have been blown out of context and proportion. I was just trying to get an opinion on what is the quickest way to citizenship and there is absolutely nothing illegal in relocating and applying after the neccessary 90 day wait.

JohnnyCash,

I don't get it. Atlanta is one of the slowest in the country, whereas San Antonio is one of the fastest. Both are nder the same service center - Texas

Now, say my PD is August 2004 which means that in Antonio I am already a proud citizen and in Atlanta I am still a frustrated immigrant.

If I move today from Atlanta to Waco, TX (under San Antonio), cause I really miss Koresh and his pack of lunatics, am I going to receive an invitation for interview within, say, less than a month??? (Recall, that in San Antonio's time I am way after the processing PD).

I might as well start packing...

Didn't mean to offend any Texans. I was actually in Waco twice and the only thing I remember from there is Koresh's farm. Oops, there I go again...
