I'm currently on F-1/OPT till June, working in a university. I also have a 485-based EAD till Feb 05. Is it safe to work on EAD without a H-1b as a backup?

The lawyer strongly recommend me to have a H-1B, which the school is preparing to do. Hope I can get it before my OPT expires. Is it of any use if I get H-1B after I used EAD?

Please advise, thanks!
 
Nothing wrong with going on EAD ...

If you have a clean case (and not expecting any status issues etc etc), then its perfectly okay to go on EAD. Need not wait for H1.

Most people who already have an existing H1 continue to use it inspite of having another valid work permit - EAD. Doesn't mean that they expect any issues.

So, if you really can;t wait, go on EAD. Don;t worry too much about it.

is job and maybe employer specific, EAD affords flexebilty. Travel wise, your are more flexible with H1 as would not need to aplly for AP.

This person's F1 OPT expires in June. By using EAD, you will not be on F1 status anymore and shouldn't really be bothered about it.

Will you graduate anytime soon ? Just being cautious .... I would ensure that I do dutifully complete my studies in order to avoid issues later on regarding abandonment (huh! something says this is not the correct spelling ... and extra 'e' after 'n' ?) of studies.
