My case is marriage based GC, H1 file 485 this month. My local BCIS office is too slow. It would take 5 months just to get EAD approved, let alone GC. I just got a good job offer but they are reluctant to sponsor another H1, I don't want to lose it just because the low efficiency of my local BCIS officers.
If I change my address to another state which can process my application faster, do I need any proof of address change. I mean, I can have my friend in that state to take care of my mail, but I don't physically live there, is it possible? Will they trace credit card address and any other information to confirm my address change? How long will the transfer process between different BCIS offices take?

If you have your EAD which is valid for 1 year it gives you the liberty to work for any employer you want. (based on marriage to a USC)

If you are considering moving to another state BCIS will relocate your file from 1 district office to another which could involve a lot of delays in case adjudication. I haven't and won't try giving an address where I have never legally stayed.

I am in the same situation. I guess it might be good idea for you to apply family based GC in order to obtain EAD quickly at such place as San Diego, but this has to be under the circumstance that you haven't submitted your application yet. I have EB pending at CSC and denied iEAD due to RFE on my 140. I am working on family based GC (my wife is USC) to get EAD in about 2 weeks from bay area. I want to get your guys input.
