Is it possible to take Citizenship oath in US Embassy in India?

I am pretty sure Mr. Khanna is a US citizen therefore American and not Indian. His name does not make him Indian

Point taken...

I guess the main issue is that many people (not only Indians) despite naturalizing, do not become Americans. They are US citizens but not Americans, only Indians, Canadians, British etc.

I also think a lot of this could be attributed to globalization ... easy travel, easy communication, comparatively more opportunities in these countries. I still remember when it took me 4 flights to get from my India home to my 1st project / job in US, and now even 2 flights seems one too many. And phone bills were so expensive ... now if you are on facebook it does not matter if you are in the next room as me, or 2 continents away.

I guess in the past, once you came here, you came here...

Im not racist or anything Im just another immigrant in this country but why people from India always have an issue with the USCIS dates etc? they always either want to do things before is supposed to or can't go to the oath because they are in India or something else......If you want US citizenship you MUST follow our rules, the process and that's how it is done here....no execptions.

Thanks Al for the oft light comment on Indians and coming to their rescue.

Mimi, shame on you on mentioning we have better toliets - this is an absolute racist comment - how would you feel if someone told you r behind is worse than Americans here??? That comment was DEMEANING.

But not your original question. I guess lots of people are curious why Indians keep making trips to India.

Some reasons are given above - like they maintain strong social ties.

Let me show my observation. Many of the Asians and people from Mexico just want to leave their country and settle down here. Once they come here, they never want to go back, even to just visit as tourists. People from China , Vietnam, Indonesia, Phillipines want to completely forgo their country. They will try everything to get ALL of their families here.

You may say they are true reformists , but I do NOT think this is necessarily a good thing.

Why would you say they would make better CITIZENS of the world if they completely dismantle ties with their native countries?

Same is true with Mexico and all other Central American cultures.

But Indians are different. Most of the people you see here want to contribute to both societies. They want the option to travel back and forth as people have mentioned.

In fact THE MAIN reason Indian economy is doing very well compared to 80s is due to Indians returning and giving back something to their native countries.

That does NOT make them Unamericans! They earn their citizenship and stay out of trouble unlike people from many other cultures!

Also they don't try to immigrate everyone from their extended family here.

I think having respect to your original country while obeying laws of US is a good thing!

Also since most Indians have their old family members back home means they may have to make long emergency trips if something were necessary.

I read post from a guy yesterday that he spent only 250 days outside in the last 12 yrs and when he applied for N400 he had to rush home for family emergency.

This does not make them unAmerican, Mimi?

What would you do if you family were sick?
Will you tell them "look, sorry I cannot come since I am trying to finish recidency requirements for my citizenship?"
I would say that if you do this, you would be considered GREEDY.

Agreed. That was demeaning... but wait...

They earn their citizenship and stay out of trouble unlike people from many other cultures!
Uh-oh! Talking about demeaning comments... Care to explain what many other cultures are not as law-abiding as Indians? Want to complain about generalisations while engaging in making a sweeping generalisation yourself - not cool, dude

Guys,

How are we helping the OP here? If you can help someone, you are welcome and post your comments. Otherwise, just leave the issue and let others provide their comments. I think we should refrain ourselves from making unneccessary comments on other race/nation/persons. This is not "who is great??" forum... I know if someone starts some attack - others will definitely come forward to defend. So try to give something back as this forum is great and helping all of us a lot... All the senior members are helping with their comments/suggestions even though their process is over.

My comments are not to hurt anyone but I have observed this kind of deviation in multiple threads and please let us all stop attacking other groups..

BTW, Al - did you have tandoori chicken yesterday?:D

Coming back to question from OP.

As others pointed out, Naturalization Oath outside United States is not possible except in limited scenarios such as military nat. I believe this is because USCIS is the authority on Naturalization and not U.S State Dept. USCIS mainly operates inside US borders and State Dept outside. All Oath ceremonies administered outside the country are conducted/facilitated by USCIS on exception basis. U.S State Dept (and consulates) do not play direct role.

Agree with CP, let us slow down on the racial and nationality generalization, they are going to create a huge blow-up here.

I got the KFC Grilled Tandoori Chicken, only available with a secret handshake taught by the Colonel himself in his heyday.:) I learnt it from one of my Indian colleagues, we are the only people who can buy Tandoori Chicken from KFC, grilled for that matter...:D So, I was unable to find a nearby restuarant as I had t change my commute route yesterday to avoid a backlog, and the nearest Indian place was on the other side of the area. I am hoping to tandoori myself on Friday.

I hear people saying the next minorty population is going to be Hispanic, they are in for a huge surprise. Indians are going to be the new hispanics in terms of numbers, which is good because every group bring a unique culture and skills. As for us Jews, we are only in the media and Congress, but we will never be a large population group, especially with Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity out there demonizing us on a daily basis. Have you heard about how Jews destroyed the Wall Street? I hear it and I see it, Benny Madoff was a bad and evil man, but it doesn't mean all Jews are like him. So, I am content and happy to be where I am...:D
