Is it okay that my application form has white-outs and other questions???

Hi everybody,

My husband and I have started filling out our application forms and we are going to submit a G-325A (Biographic Information) for each of us, an I-485 (Application to Register PR or Adjust Status), his Affidavit of Suport for me, and the I-130 (Petition for Alien Relative) for me.

Unfortunately, I made a mistake on the I-130 form
#17 List husband/wife and all children of your relative

Instead of having his name here as my husband, we had put my name and info so I had to white it out and write down my husband's name and info. Is this okay? or do we have to get a brand new application? the white out is very clean and we've written very legibly, it is not messy at all.

Another thing I'm confused about, the packet that we received contained two kinds of I-485, the one that we filled out and one that says "Processing Sheet For Form I-485" Do we fill out that form and send it as well???

I am also not going to apply for an EAD since I am not planning to work because I'm 7 months pregnant and also, my passport is expired, we have no plans to travel since my husband has no vacation days right now and our 2nd baby's on the way (don't want to travel overseas with a newborn and a toddler, too risky, too expensive) so do I still have to renew my passport at the Consulate Office or can I just bring an expired passport to the interview???

There is also this form called "Adjustment of Status Checklist" and do I have to fill that out??? It's asking for the Alien Registration number or file number as shown on Approval Notice. How am I gonna have this number when I'm submitting everything for the first time??? How can they ask for that number when I won't have it until they give it to me??? I'm sooo confused!!!

Also, do we issue separate checks like one check for $190 for form I-130 and then a second check for $325 for the I-485 and $70 for biometrics or we just total everything out and write one check???

Sorry, this is my 2nd edit, I just thought of another question. I already went through with my complete physical/medical exam and I already received the sealed results from the civil surgeon. Do I mail this with my applications? I heard that they will ask for this at the interview, I only have one copy, does that mean I have to get another exam so that we have another sealed envelope to take to the interview???

Ok Maybe i can help a little:

1. Seperate checks for each application/petition

2. Is I-130 on yellow paper back and front?

3. If i were you i would complete another application without any error. U can download the forms off the internet.

4. You do not have to mail the checklist. It is just a guideline. Don't worry about the A#(that is for persons who file seperately and may have already gotten receipts back).

5. Make sure on petitions/applications that you don't put 'n/a' where it should say 'none'

6. Make several copies of your petition/application package for interview and personal records

7. It is best to send Medical Exam in at the same time because if you don't they are going to send you a RFE (Request for Evidence, Request for Information) your actual date for processing time will begin when that is received.



I can't be sure about the other page in the I-485. I am not sure what that is but I hope I have helped somewhat. Good luck in this journey. and much, much patience.

You can print the form I-130 from the USCIS website: http://www.uscis.gov/graphics/formsfee/forms/files/i-130.pdf, and fill it out. Or, for the fillable form, you might want to go to this page: http://www.visapro.com/Download/INS-Form-I-130.pdf, fill out the form, and print it.

I am not sure what that is. If it's a supplement form, you don't need to fill it out.

I am also not going to apply for an EAD since I am not planning to work because I'm 7 months pregnant and also, my passport is expired, we have no plans to travel since my husband has no vacation days right now and our 2nd baby's on the way (don't want to travel overseas with a newborn and a toddler, too risky, too expensive) so do I still have to renew my passport at the Consulate Office or can I just bring an expired passport to the interview???

Yes, you need to renew it. Afterall, you might still need your passport even after getting your green card.

Separate checks for each form.
Note: You do need to combine I-485 fee with fingerprint fee - $395.00 total.

Amen to that. They rejected my I-864 because I did not put N/A in any blank answers, even if they do not pertain to you.

When I resubmitted it, I had "N/A" all over the place, even if it seemed rediculous, and my application was accepted.

They rejected my I-864 because I did not put N/A in any blank answers, even if they do not pertain to you.

N/A means "Not Applicable", so you should put N/A when the question does not pertain to you.

Use the visapro immigration documents. there are fillable forms so u can delete and redo very easily. All u need is Adobe reader. If u have adobe Acrobat, u can save the forms.

And, by the way, I just checked I-130 again on USCIS site. It is fillable now. Even though there is no icon next to the form to show that it's fillable, but it is. They probably just made the change: I could've sworn it wasn't fillable yesterday. Both sites - USCIS and Visapro, have the same version of I-130, so either could be used.

Yay, we just received our official marriage certificate in the mail today! It was addressed to my husband, hmp! The return address was also handwritten, I didn't think it was the official certificate!

We are now getting ready to mail everything. Here are some more questions:

1. I already asked this before, but nobody replied: When we mail in our forms, do we tear out the first few pages (the instructions pages) and only mail in the part that we filled out, or do all pages go?

2. It says to include pictures of us, do they mean official pictures like 2 X 2 pictures or regular pictures taken at home or wedding pictures? How many? And do they want current? We have a lot of current pictures and also pictures from way back in 1999 to prove that we've been together for a long time. Do I also include our first born son's birth certificate? It has both of our names. I haven't given birth to our 2nd baby yet, but I'm due in one month. Should we wait?

My husband works 14-16 hours a day, and I am 35 weeks pregnant and have to take care of our three and a half year old son. I know that's not an excuse, sorry! But okay I will read them now!

Didn't mean to make you feel bad. But everyone filing AOS should read the instruction not once but for couple of times. Once your Packet is ready go through the instructions again to make sure you are not missing anything. If possible make your husband to check it out. Different set of eyes can find an error quickly.
If you make an error or forget anything to attach, there is a big punishment from USCIS. Your case may get delayed or just can get stuck in infinite loop. The stress from such situation is horrible which is not good for a pregnant lady.
So make sure and go through everything more than once.
