If you leave for more than a year - then denial (I guess that is negative).
If you leave for between 6 months and a year: You must povide AMPLE proof (I am quoting Rahul's expression) that you have not severed your ties with the US. (I guess that also fall under the category of negative)
If you leave for less than 6 months (and still maintian the physical residency requirement and don't miss fingerprinting, interview etc.) then no negative impact (unless of course you do that too frequently...)
In short, a one time trip of up to 6 months does not adversly affect your application
Then it should have no affect whatsoever. Enjoy your travel and make sure someone is getting your mail (it would really be unfortnate to miss FP or interview when you are drinking martinis in some exotic beach).
