Is it legal to rent out ur property as a H1 visa holder?

My cousin is a H1 visa holder and he recently purchased a house. He wants to know if he could rent out a portion of his home.
Any information in this regard would be very helpful to him.

rental income is passive income, so no problem. As long as it is shown as income in IT return, no problem
