is INS' case status online working?

Don't worry!

Hi!

It is good!
I had the exactly same experience.

I had a fingerprint done on Oct. 14 and I got an interview day letter a couple of days after I found the website changes like you.
Good luck!

According to my experience, you can check the status of your case before you have the fingerprints and before getting your interview date. However, once you get your interview date, you will not see your status online and it may give you an error message saying the INS number not found(or something similar). And if you notice, the INS website actually tells you that too. It advices you to contact your local INS office in order to check your status AFTER the interview.

the link is:
https://egov.ins.usdoj.gov/graphics/cris/jsps/caseStat.jsp

To view the status of a case, you have to enter the corresponding application receipt number. "The 13-character application receipt number can be found on application notices you have received from the INS. Dashes ("-") should be omitted when entering a receipt number. However, all other characters, including asterisks ("*"), can be included if listed on your notice as part of the receipt number."

bascially, there are three kinds of case status can be found on the case status search page:

1: "Your N400 APPLICATION FOR NATURALIZATION was received on Month Date, Year. We mailed you a receipt with information about processing. It is taking between 240 and 300 days for us to process this kind of case. We will mail you a decision as soon as processing is complete."

2:It will tell you at what Month, Date, year, they transferred the case to another INS office for them to schedule and conduct the interview.

3: Tells you that the status for the Number cannot be found and ask you to check with local office.

From the information provided by you guys, I think, it is right, after the case transfered to the local office, the case status can not be found on the online system any more.

Good Job.
