Hi all,

Does anybody know expedited service for getting US Passport?
is it really faster than regular one?
has anyone had any experiences?

I really need to go abroad ASAP and i am thinking of using this service.
It says that in 2 weeks..
I am planing to make appointment at Washington office to do this.
please give me some ideas.

best,

HIKO

It is indeed faster! It says three working days for issue of passport and not 2 weeks. If you pay two ways overnight priority mail charges ( About $ 27.00) you should get it within 4-5 working days max. But please note, you need aletter from a local congerssman to recommand your expedited service. I was told so by the man in charge at the postoffice. Getting such letter is no problem and is available upon your personal visit to his office.
Eventhough it says 3 working days, it is mostly issued on second working day after the application is recevd by them by mail.

That's BS. No such letter is needed. You pay for the expedited service, after all.

:D I concur!

I have recently expedited my US passport - Applied on July 23 evening (at a County passport office) and received it on July 31. I paid an extra $60 for the expedite fee and about $13.85 for the USPS express return mail. No additional documentation or travel itinerary is necessary. Note that USPS delivers express mail 365 days a year to most destinations (yes, including Sunday).

BTW HIKO - if you make an appointment at a Passport office (this is for someone travelling within 2 weeks and need the passport for Visa's), you will need to show proof of travel (e.g. Airline tickets etc.). The passport agency normally processes them while you wait in the lobby. This is not the same as requesting expedited service with your application (at a passport application acceptance facility).

If you expedite your passport at a passport application acceptance facility, the passport agency should (normally for expedited cases) process them within 3 days of receipt. Good luck.

It is a color picture. It is difficult to say if it scanned or glued (because I do not feel the picture - it is inline with the page). I believe it is mounted under high temperature on to the page :)

Thank you for reply, wish me good luck. so one day i would post about my passport too. sighhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

Applying for US Passports

I'm not sure I understand you guys, don't you have to appear for first time applicants at one of the 13 regional agencies for same day or expedited service.

If this is true, then how can you send the application by mail? or does taking it to one of the the court agency take care of the appearance. and what is the duration using this method. and what's the deal with those internet site that guarantee it in 24 hrs?

I know this may sound repetitive, but you answers were unclear.

First time applicants NEED to appear in person at a passport acceptance facility. Do not get confused over Passport Agency expedite Vs the Passport acceptance facility expedite. Passport acceptance expedite is where you get your passport within 2 weeks. If you need to get it ASAP, you can make an appoinment with the passport agency and take the sealed envelope from the passport acceptance facility (in this scenario you need proof of your travel - itinerary and/or tickets).

If you have money to shell, you can hire the travel agent to take the sealed application on behalf of you to the passport agency (for a fee). You can find all this information at http://travel.state.gov/passport/get_first_quickly.html
Good luck.

Got my passport in less than 1 week

Applied for expedited service on 8/2/04 from the post office accepting passport applications here in Jacksonville, Florida and received the Passport from Miami Passport Agency this past Saturday (8/7/04) before noon.

I wrote down the tracking number for the pre-paid return envelope. After you submit the application, you can always call the National Passport Information center and ask them to send an email request to the issuing agency to issue the passport ASAP, if you have travel date. They have excellent customer service. They can give you a status on your passport application at any given time and also give you the tracking numbers once it is mailed out.

Good Luck to you.
