A question: If a person is in current H1-B status and has applied for I-140/I-485 does (s)he need Advance Parole while travelling outside the U.S? Or is the valid H1-B good enough for re-entry??

H1 is enough. See FAQ of INS website on Advance Parole

H1 is good for you to work in US. All you need is the H1B visa stamp. As long as you have valid visa stamp you can enter US legally. Or you can use AP to enter US.
