Invalid SSN from Employment screening agency

My wife's brother and daughter arrived in the US approx 1 month ago. All the DHS paperwork has been received, and they have both received their SSN's. My niece applied for a job and started the same day. After working for approx 1 week, the employer told her there was a problem with her SSN. It is showing invalid, so we went to the local SS office; they checked it, no problem. We took the confirmation paper to the employer; they still say it shows up invalid. Meanwhile, my brother-in-law applied at Lowe’s, and received a letter from "ChoicePoint" background screening company that his SSN was invalid.

I'm not sure why both have showed up invalid.

Thanks for any advice and help.

1 take the letter of ChoicePoint" background screening company that his SSN was invalid and go to SSA office

2 We took the confirmation paper to the employer; they still say it shows up invalid. take the letter from employer and go to SSA office.
also ask the "ChoicePoint" what SSN they searched.

3 did you niece wrote her name on formI-9 as it is on SSN card?

4 did your brother-in-law wrote his name on Form I-9 as it is on SSN card?

5 did they write correct A# (A# is on Green Card) on form I-9
Check the copy of I-9 form they have compleated with employer, did the First and Last name are same on I-9form, SSN cards and on Green Card or on passports??

Called SSA this morning, and now we're on our way to the local office. Apparently SSA has the name different in the system than on the card for my niece, and for my brother-in-law ChoicePoint wants us to fax a copy of the confirmation letter from SSA stating that this in fact his SSN. ChoicePoint stated because he has no background they didn't have anything to match what was submitted. They stated that sending the fax will help them get it correct in their system and they'll reissue a report to "Lowe's".

Does this sound right?

Thanks,
Dennis
