Hi, Ciba,
Thanks for the information you provide. I have been checking your list for
a while, and got lots of help from you. Here is my local interview experience.
My husband and I went to San Jose INS to interview on 09/12/01. Since it’s
the first day after Sept 11, I’m a little worried our case will be affected
somehow. Our case was scheduled at 8:00 am, we were allowed to get in at
8:45 am. A black lady took us to her office. She asked us if we understood
her and we said yes. She then asked me more than ten questions in 485, the
answers were all No. Then she opened our file, updated our address information.
She asked if I still worked with the same company when I filed 485. I said no.
She was surprised and went to check my file again. She found out I was only
the dependent and my husband was the one she should ask. Then she started to
ask my husband the same questions. Once my husband told her he also changed
job, the situation became a little complicated. However when she found out
our case is NIW, she told us once my husband is in the same field, we should
have no problem. She asked my husband if he worked for American company, the
answer is yes. She checked with her computer and told us our CIA clearance
is not sixty days yet, so she can’t approve our case today. She then asked
my husband his current employ letter. She said since she can’t approve this
case anyway, she won’t read the letter today.
When we stepped out INS, We still positive, but still disappointed since we
expected green card within that day. The interview lasted about one hour and
the immigration officer was busy searching our file all the time during the
interview. After another two months waiting, eventually we got the approve
notice. The notice said we could only go the INS to get stamp on passport
if we need to travel aboard or EAD expiring within three months.
