Guys:
I just completed my interview this afternoon. As promised, here are the details.

My interview was scheduled at 1:20 PM. So, checked in at DO (Columbus, OH) at 1:00 PM.
Went through security and the guard took my appt. letter and asked me to wait. Noticed there was one hispanic couple with a layer waiting for the interview and another female by herself.
While waiting, I noticed there were 3 examiners inside calling names. My name was called by a female examiner at 1:45 PM. She took me to her office and asked me to take the oath before sitting.
Took out my file which was about 4" thick and asked me what is all of that. Mine was the only file very thick compared to 5 other files. I told her that I got my GC through outstanding researcher category and I had submitted all my publications, etc..... My N-400 file was on the top of which she removed the staple.
Asked me to take out my GC and driver's licence. That's all!! She told me to keep all other documents away. Went through the application page by page to make sure I had the current info. Talked about my son who is a toddler and asked if he is very active. Also, joked about my file being thick, she laid her left hand while writing as a support,...Ha.ha..
While going through my application & talking, she printed out 10 questions from the computer and asked me to answer either verbally or write the answers. I read the qestiuons and answers to her and got 100%. All were from the 100 questions that all of you are familier with. Then asked me to read few sentences from a form and asked my signature at the end. Then asked me to write a simple sentence at the bottom of the test page.
Whle looking at my application, she asked if I traveld outside after my last trip to India in 03. Then she asked if I had any violations, speeding tikets, etc... I told her that I had one in 02 and have paid in full. She confirmed that I paid and have no outstanding issues. I said no. She didn't even ask me to show any evidance.
Then she took out two photos I mailed with the application and asked me to sign on them. She completed some formalities of paperwork and said you are done and gave me the 'naturalization interview results' form # N-652 which shows I have passed the tests and says Congratulations, your application has been recommended for approval. She told me that I will receive a letter from their office with in 30 to 90 days. All of this took only 12 minutes!!!

Overall, she was very nice and humourous. I was kind of over prepared with lots of documents. All went well.

My advise to you guys, Just Relax......if you have all your documents and maintained your legal residency, no need to worry.

Witing to be a citizen soooon. :)

Oath Ceremonies?

Having my interview done last week, I am eagerly waiting for the oath letter from my DO office which may take anywhere from 30 to 90 days. I am planning to visit India as soon as I get my U.S. citizenship. I have the following questions;

1) Where do oath ceremeonies are typically conducted? At INS office or district court?
2) Is it possible to know how often they schedule naturalization ceremonies?
3) Is there is tel number or website showing the future oath schedule?

Thanks in advance......

Oath Letter

All (& Shaky),
I recieved the oath letter yesterday (10/2) to attend the ceremony on 10/27 at a Federal Court House in downtown. As you remember, my interview was done on 9/20th. So, it took about 10 days for them to mail the letter.

Is it normal to wear a suit to the ceremony or a tie would be sufficient (of course, along with pant & shirt!)? They have indicated to wear a proper attair (no jeans etc.)

My wife's timeline
Applied N-400 on 5/22/04.
Prority date: 5/22/04.
FP appointment: 10/20/04

Wishing a speedy approval to others,
-Ravi

Ravi...thats great news for you. Congrats man. so u can VOTE... :)
yeah it was speedy oath letter, let us know how ur ceremony goes.. and congrats again.

Thanks Rahul & Shaky. Yeah... tomorrow i s the last dayto register for vote. Not sure if I can still register as I will be citizen by elections.

You cannot register to vote before you are officially a citizen. However, a number of counties have what is referred to as an early voting option; you show up at the Registrar of Voters Office, ask for a ballot, make the appropriate selections, and submit it right away. If you are not registered to vote, you can register to vote and vote right away! The deadline for this is typically after the one that is advertised. Call your local office for more details.

Too late to vote

C R S,

I checked with the board of elections to confirmif I can vote using 'early voting' option. NOPE, they said if I have not registered before 10/4, I cannot vote. One of the attorny said that Oath ceremonies in Cincinnati have been moved prior to that date so that they could register. Unfortunately not in Columbus, mine is on 27th.

She also said the first question on the voter registration form is if I am a citizen. She advised me to register after oath so that I will be able to vote in future elections.

Kerry is going to miss mine!!!

That's too bad. One can vote in an election in California as long as he/she has registered to vote at least 15 days before the day of the election. The deadline for the upcoming election was October 18th. However, newly naturalized citizens have a different deadline that may vary from county to county. Here's the scoop for Los Angeles County (from http://www.lavote.net/voter/info.htm):

Persons who become citizens after the close of registration may register and vote at the Registrar of Voters office between the 14th and 7th day before an election. New citizens must present a Certificate of Naturalization and declare they have established residence in the county.

This would imply that someone whose naturalization ceremony is on October 26th could still make it! It's seem somewhat unfair that eligibility rules vary so much from place to place.

Skinny little out-of-high school looking brunette, with intense eyes, and very professional and polite?

Sounds like Officer McNeer, definitely an asset to this agency. Thumbs up to her
and the new breed of agents. It seems that the improved incentives have resulted in the hiring of more educated and competent individuals.

Also just look at the Columbus office now compared to five years ago and you just can't recognize the place anymore. Very professional, efficient. Love it,esp that i live 2 hours away. I did the whole round trip in 4 1/2 hours meaning that i spent 1/2 hour inside the office for my interview :)
