Interview Visa Asked For More Docs

My wife went to the interview in India and was not given the visa. My question is I had originally filed an I-864 based on my savings since there is no job. Now the embassy is asking for a Joint Sponsor although my savings are more than sufficient for her support. Can the embassy ask for another sponsor?

Yes, if your income is not sufficient you will be required to find another sponsor, otherwise your wife's green card will not be granted. Savings alone is not enough, there should be a source of income every month that is enough to provide for your family at 125% poverty level.

Are you sure your assets met the requirement? (5 times 125% of the poverty line if you're a permanent resident, 3 times 125% if you're a citizen)

Did you include sufficient proof of those assets? Were they all liquid assets (e.g. cash, stocks, bonds, gold bullion), or did you include physical assets such as real estate or cars? If you use illiquid assets, there are special restrictions and considerations -- for example, with real estate only the net amount after the loan is counted for the I-864, not the house value. What are the types of assets you listed?''

Did you properly count the household size? If you have any children under 18, or children older than that who are listed as dependents on your tax return, or if you filed I-864 for anybody else in the past and they're still a permanent resident or in the process to become one, you would normally have to count them in your household size even if they don't live with you.

That is not correct; with sufficient eligible assets, income is not necessary.
