Interview question

Friends,

I read in this forum that the IO goes over the application during the interview. Do we need to remember everything in the application (including dates like address dates and employment dates)? Or are the questions limited to the yes/no kind - in other words - what is the most likely question-

1) 'what addresses you stayed at during the last 5 years'?
OR
2) 'you stayed at this address between these dates- is this accurate?'

Thanks.

They don't as such questions.. Mostly they go over the YES and NO questions and you better know them !!!:)

In my case they asked if I am still living the same address as in the N-400 and working for same employer as mentioned...

Review your entire N-400 form before interview, especially Yes/No questions - just make sure you're familiar with those questions. The IO interviewed me shot out those Yes/No questions like a machine gun. He spoke faster than a man reading the fine prints in a radio commercial.

Hello, Sorry to hijack this old thread and include my question. I am not able to start a new thread and system shows error - "Parse error: syntax error, unexpected T_STRING in /disk2/v/apache/htdocs/VIRTUAL/forums.immigration.com/public_html/includes/class_core.php(4029) : eval()'d code on line 15". Not sure what is the issue.

The question is for one of my friends. He was finger printed for N-400 in Dec 2009 after which he had to leave for urgent family requirement to India. Now he has got interview letter, which is scheduled for 15th Feb. The problem is that he would not be able to attend this as he would not be able to be back before 10th April. How does the process to get interview postponed works.

1. Can my friend prepare a letter, sign it and mail it to me. I then include his interview letter (which is with me presently) and mail to USCIS from US. Is this fine or he has to mail letter to USCIS from India only (the place where he is at present).
2. Does he need to mention in letter that he is out of country as of now and sign with place as India etc.
3. Can he request to postpone date to after 10th April or send a general request to postpone and give a new date. Does USCIS entertain request with specific date mention or not.
4. Any other thing to keep in mind or include in the request.
5. Any one with similar experience.

Please help. Thanks.

He can either send an interview reschedule request alone directly from India to USCIS or send you the letter first and have you send it with IL from US. No need to mention why he can't make it. Just have him mention to request it for a date after April 10th. USCIS does not honor requests for specific interview dates.

Thanks for reply Bob. Does he need to mention any specific reason in letter or just indicate that due to personal reasons he can not attend and request USCIS to psotpone to a later date after 10th April.

Just depends on your IO.
Mine wanted me to walk her backwards on my employment history (from-to for each employer) even though it is not relevant to a marriage based case...
So DO review your N400 in its entirety before you go to the interview.

No need to mention reason why he needs to postpone.

Yes, depends on IO and your case (and PR case). Remember, USCIS reserves the right to review your immigration history and ask questions about information that you put in N-400 (including validiation via requesting support documentation and support). Also remember, you will be UNDER OATH so it is best to tell the truth.
