Interview not held

Guys,

My wife was scheduled for the interview today based on 5 yr GC. The officer told her that the interview could not take place since she has not yet completed 5 yrs (7 days short) and told re scheduling letter will be sent to her later.

I had my interview a couple of months back and that was not the issue at that time.


She talked with the supervisor but she was told the same thing.

Anybody experienced the same issue? when can we expect the reschedule letter?

This is the first time this happened to anyone in this forum. I think the IO is wrong and his superviros agree with him
juist because they are more polite to each other than they are to applicants

Sorry to hear that. I had my interview last week and at that time I was 13 days away from my 5 yr anniversary. The IO had no problem doing the interview that day, just said that decision will be make on or after my 5 yr anniversary.

Also, I have read a lot of posts here of people in the same situation and not problem doing the interview.

I remember reading 1 or 2 other cases where the same thing happened; they showed up for the interview, and the IO immediately said it will be rescheduled due to falling short of the 5 years.

If this is likely, there is no advantage in applying early. You lose more time with rescheduling.

Is there anything my wife can do? I do not know how long she will be wiating.

I saw Khan6000 had the similar problem. Not sure if he/she got the Citizenship yet?

Pretty much nothing you can do but just wait. Sorry when such thing happens.

Yeah, unfortunately there is nothing you can do about this now. The IOs should check eligibility dates instead of blindly assigning the next available appointment (and then losing the interview slot by canceling later).
Until then, perhaps applicants need to be a little more vigilant with their DO's processing times and delay fingerprinting by a week or two to ensure that their interview happens after their eligibility date.

Was your interview also a few days short of 5th year anniversary? If not, it could be a DO policy not to permit interview to happen before 5th year anniversary.

If the DO has that policy, then they should coordinate with NBC not to scedule such interview. Of course I think interview is scheduled by some software and their software may not
have an input parameter in this respect.
