Well here's my interview experience in Columbus, OH DO:
We got there around 9:45 am, interview letter said 10:15 am. We waited n waited.... didn't get called in until 11:30. I got called first, I noticed the people before me also got interviewed seperately, being the foreigner got interviewed first. She swore me, she's not rude but not too nice either. Things she asked:
- Can I see your passport and a valid picture ID? I gave her my passport which she took my I-94 n put it with the other documents. Then I gave her my Texas driver liscence, which she made a copy of.
- What's your name?
- What's your address?
- Birthdate?
- Husband name?
- His birthdate?
- His address?
- Did you live together before getting married?
- Did you have a big wedding? I said no
- Where did you get married?
- When did you get engaged? I said Dec 25, she said, oh Christmas
- How did you get a Texas driver liscence? I said my ex worked there a for a while.
- You cant' get an Ohio driver liscence? I said no, they required something more than a tourist visa, which was the one I had.
- Then she asked me stuff in the I130 or 485, about criminal n stuff
- How did you meet your husband? I said online
- Oh so then you visited him? I said no, I was already in Columbus, he lived 2 hours away, then he visited me after chatting for 3 weeks.
- Were u marrried before? I said yes
- Any children from that marriage? I said yes, 1 daughter.
- Whats her name?
- So are you going to petition for her after you're done with this? I said no, cuz she's already a US citizen. She said "Oh I didn't know that was your ex-husband a greencard holder?" I said no, he's also a US citizen. She said oh.
- How come you got divorced in March '06 n remarried a couple months later?
I had to explain my situation, his infidelity, that we were seperated since March 2004.
- Who's Shirley? My mother in-law
- Where do your in-laws live?
- Does he have any brother or sister?
- Do you practice a strict Moslem? I was literally grinning, then said not really.
- This month is fasting month, are you fasting? I said no.
----I don't know why those questions were even asked----

- Is there any other documents you wanna give me? I said yes, I gave her 3 joint credit cards, joint car insurance, joint car titles, current joint cell phone bills that show numerous call to each other, Dec '06 joint cell phone bill that when I was backhome, we messaged each other millions of times, my daughter birth certificate, my daughter's copy of her US passport, n I forgot joint bank account statement, so I said, hold on I have 1 more thing. She said "oh boy!" But I gave it to her anyway.

Then she escorted me out n called my husband. He said she was nicer to him and actually carried conversations. She told him, "Your wife gave me bunch of documents, I have all I need right here." Things she asked him:
- His name?
- Address?
- My name?
- My address?
- How many people attended the wedding?
- Did you know that she was married before?
- Does she have any children?
- What's her name?
- When did you propose? He said last Christmas, when she landed from Indonesia. She said, oh that was a nice surprise.
- Is your wife a strict Moslem? He said "No, Indonesians' Moslem are not very strict at all, n I'm a Moslem too."

Then she escorted him out. Then she told us that we will get a written decision mailed to us. She did take my I-94, but she didn't stamp anything in my passport, n I still haven't got my EAD. Ok can anybody tell me what that mean?? Thx.

Sounds like a second interview...but it was really your first.
Well, it looks you guys did well.
And the muslim question...I think the IO just asked it to compare it with your husband's answer. It wasn't discriminating. The IO just asked if you're very religious.

Hopefully... We were just trying to answer each question honestly... but that threw me off guard a lil bit when she asked the moslem questions, that's why I was grinning... I'm just wondering if that meant an approval, or they have to review my case again or what... I hate this waiting game.....

I disagree with Sarrebal. To me it sounds like you were approved. She took you I-94, and said that you would get a decision soon. It does sound like an approval to me.

Good luck!

They're approved according to me as well.
It was just a tough interview giving the fact that it was an initial interview.

Sorry to say but I think Moslems are given special attention nowadays. I don't really know if you were approved or not but good luck.

I hope so too Jewel... I need the decision soon, since we're planning to go to Indonesia on dec 8, now I dont know if we should purchase the tickets or not.

Yeah moslems have a hard time since 9/11... even though if they actually see how Indonesian moslems live over there, they can see the big difference... it seemed like she knew though...after my husband answered that he's also a moslem but he follows it the way I follow it, she said, "yeah I know...there are many different sects of Islam, there are the strict ones and the flexible ones." But to be honest, this interview is about proving if the marriage is genuine and not a fraud just to get a greencard. And everything should be based JUST ON THAT. Then she can see that my husband, as white, blond, blue-eyed, and Irish-American as he can possibly get... actually became moslem and got married to me by an Islamic minister (she can see that on our marriage cert, I guess that was how the question came up in the first place). Then they should know that our marriage is for real.

The law says tha they can't discriminate against you because of your religion, but unfortunately, USCIS officers have way too much power.

Good luck to you, and I'm sure you'll get an approval letter soon :)

Just wait

I'm also from Indonesia and my husband father was from Pakistan.(he was born here)Definitly moeslim but he's not.IO doesn't even ask about religion stuff, she's very nice to us
Our Interview was gone smoothly since we bring our 19 m old son which we were chasing him around ('prob cause of that). She is only confirm about the paper work. It's take only 3 months after applying, I get my GC :)

I'm sure you are approved, IO Questioning about your ex,(cause why He doesn't sponsored you in the first place).

wait in your mail box, Hopely letter coming soon. :)

sabar ya,

i really don't want to come off as rude, but I really don't care if anyone gets more or less special attention than others. 9/11 in my opinion has made people scared and so I totally understand why Muslims are under more suspicion. It definitely does not apply to every Muslim but I am sure that one or two have been caught over the years because of that scrutiny.

Now most people will argue that any race can have its bad apples and that is also perfectly right and that would leave us with the whole Immigration process not being perfect.

I am sure that you will be approved, if not now then later. Everyone on here agrees that if your marriage and more important your love to the petitioner is real and genuine you have nothing to worry about, therefor I would not care how long my interview would take, how rude the IO would be (just for that scenario I am taking a lawyer), or how many private questions I would be asked.

I wish you all the best and just know that eventually everything will be resolved. And btw Dec 8th is still a while. I am sure you will definitely hear from them soon and if not get an Infopass.

yeah , we had exactley the same interview , im muslim too , and they ask more than aquestion about that , even my friend that i visited in tokyo before i came here if he muslim .. things are complicated for us man ... anyway just wait ( god will help it )

just curious ..... did they seperate you ? they did seprate us !!!!!!!! and my interview took over an hour ...

good luck
